Who's responsible
This is the personal site of Dominic Francis, a freelance web developer in the UK, at dominicfrancis.co.uk. For anything on this page, Dominic Francis is the data controller. Enquiries you send are handled together with Doubleslash Studio. If you want anything explained or actioned, use the contact form. The site publishes no email address, so the form is the way to reach me.
What I collect, and why
When you send an enquiry. The contact form asks for your name, email address and a short message. That's used for one thing: to read your enquiry and reply. The submission is sent over HTTPS to an Amazon Web Services endpoint hosted in the EU (Ireland), which emails it to me. It isn't used for marketing, isn't sold, and isn't shared beyond what's needed to answer you. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch, and taking steps at your request before any work begins.
Analytics, only if you accept. If you accept cookies, the site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-KQEX5744PM) to understand how it's used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (derived from IP, not stored as your full address), and what device and browser they're on. This data is pseudonymous; I don't use it to identify you. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. If you reject cookies, Google Analytics is never loaded and none of this is collected.
Cookies & storage
Nothing non-essential is stored until you choose. Here's everything the site can set:

There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The GA cookies are only ever placed after you accept.
Your choices
When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject analytics cookies. Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting. You can change your mind whenever you like: use the control (also in the footer of every page). Rejecting after having accepted stops analytics and removes the cookies GA set. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Who it's shared with
Only the services that make the site work, acting as processors on my behalf:
- Google (Google Analytics), if you've accepted cookies. Google may transfer data outside the UK/EEA, including to the United States, under the safeguards it publishes (such as Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US / UK data-transfer frameworks).
- Amazon Web Services, which receives contact-form submissions and emails them to me. This is hosted in the EU (Ireland).
I don't sell your data or share it with anyone else.
How long it's kept
Enquiry emails are kept for as long as I need them to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, then deleted. Analytics data is retained for the period configured in Google Analytics (Google's default is 14 months), after which Google deletes it.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you can ask me to give you a copy of the data I hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it's used, or port it elsewhere, and you can withdraw consent for analytics at any time without affecting anything that happened before. To do any of these, use the contact form.
If you think I've handled your data poorly, you can complain to the UK's regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk. I'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
